Bryce Schaufelberger of Mission captained the 10-man Team Canada Special Olympics soccer squad that competed at the World Summer Games in Los Angeles.
Schaufelberger and the Canadian soccer team finished fourth in the five-a-side event, losing to Argentina, 2-1, in the bronze medal match on July 31. The event ran for five days, starting on July 27.
Canada was grouped with the men’s teams from Costa Rica, Australia and Argentina. They drew their games between the latter two and succumbed 3-1 to Costa Rica in the round-robin stage, which landed them in the battle for third place.
In overall, Team Canada was a force to be reckoned with, bringing home a record-breaking 144 medals (70 gold, 48 silver and 26 bronze) along with countless personal bests at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games, which ran from July 25 to Aug. 2.
